Vinny G & the 1st UBC

Vinny G & the 1st UBC

I have been very fortunate to have experienced firsthand the growth of the ABC and I have made great friends throughout the last couple of years. The UBC was right up my alley. It gave me the opportunity to share my knowledge as one of the mentors. Skiba nailed it on the head with his words "a dream that came true". The passion that filled the air from the athletes and mentors sharing their knowledge with the fans was very addicting. We all worked as a team and there were no egos involved. I worked alongside Travis Rogers and the two of us played off each other like we've been doing this for years. The fans listened intently to our advice and Travis and I were willing, just like the rest of the crew, to share the "secrets" of bodybuilding. The event couldn't have been planned any better. Like all great things, it will improve and expand in the future, but for the first UBC it went off without a hitch. As one of the mentors, and I can proudly say the longest athlete with Universal Nutrition, I am looking forward to helping improve upon an already awesome event.

The first ever UBC was like a perfect storm. Not only did we have athletes from the United States, we had international competitors Antoine Valliant from Canada and David Hoffman from Germany, who placed second and third respectively at the Amateur Arnold Classic. Also in the house we had one of the best middle weights to ever turn pro - 1984 National Champion and Mr. Universe, John Hnatyschak. Canadian transplant Mike Van Wyck was also in attendance. Mike stands out bigger than life! If you want to hide, just sit behind him! From powerlifting great, Henri Skiba, to the man himself and the events host, Greg Long, a former Mr. Universe. The event was filled with over 5 decades of bodybuilding knowledge and wisdom.

A treat for me, and I'm sure everyone else in the house, was to hear the old time stories of when Leon Brown was Arnold's training partner. I was kind of shocked that the first four or five questions were directed at me and I was very flattered that the fans wanted to know my story.

Being a part of a company that is on the cutting edge is an exciting place to be for a bodybuilder. Working alongside G. Diesel, Natural Guy, and J Dawg, these guys work like a fine oiled machine. They are the backbone of how it works. Their passion to make sure that this went down as a great event ensured that all attended enjoyed the day. The first UBC was the perfect storm, and in the future we're gonna rock 'em like a hurricane!

Vinny: great article. thank you for sharing with us. it was an event that had all the bases covered and no stone left unturned. Universal showed why they are the leaders in the industry. They don't just talk the talk, they walk the walk.

Nice write up of the UBC Vinny. I like how you call it the perfect storm. Athletes from all different parts of the world, age groups and training methodologies under one roof!
